Video Game Look-Alike o' the Day:
Sackboy (LittleBigPlanet) & 9 (9)
It's worth noting that 9 comes to us straight from an Acadamy Award nominated short film from 2005, two years before LittleBigPlanet was announced.
So there!
(Cue emails about obscure Scandinavian stop-motion horror films from the 70s with the same character design.)
Bonus points if you catch the "9" song reference.
Self-plug time: The latest episode of Level Up - RPG Podcast is up. This week we're covering the classic Games of Enix, from Actraiser to Soul Blazer and even obscure stuff like 7th Saga. (Dragon Quest we're saving for a later show.)
[2009-07-07]
Video Game Look-Alike o' the Day:
Igor (Persona) & The Penguin (Batman)
Usually when I see "7-7-2009" on screen I think, "What the hell is wrong with this video slot machine?" But no, today it's just a day like any other, except for a primo Persona/Penguin lookalike courtesy of Googleshng.
Reeks of favortism, doesn't it? "Where's my" lookalike?" you're probably asking. Well, don't worry, your lookalike is coming. It just sometimes takes a while. This one's a year or two old, and I co-host an RPG podcast with the guy who made it. See? I'm just extremely slow -- the 2400 baud modem of ludo-similarities. Classic, yet noisy and unfashionable.
Hear that, ladies?
[2009-06-26]
Video Game Look-Alike o' the Day:
Jim Power (Mutant Planet) & Jean Claude Van Damme (Actor)
Today is laundry day, but that doesn't mean I can't take time off from my busy schedule and procrastonate post a brand new lookalike, courtesy of Jean-Marc, who I believe is actually JCVD in disguise. Come on, big guy, admit it: You want a piece of the David Bowie pie.
[2009-06-19]
Video Game Look-Alike o' the Day:
Sander Cohen (Bioshock) & Kozi (Japanese Rock Star)
There we have it, Sander Cohen and Kozi were separated at birth. Mother must be so proud.
The latest RPG Podcast is up. This week we talk about Strategy and Tactical RPGs, from Final Fantasy Tactics to Rebelstar Tactical Command (from the makers of X-Com) and generally dance around Disgaea, because I haven't played it yet. Sorry.
[2009-06-17]
Sponsored Video Game Look-Alike o' the Day:
Lulu (Final Fantasy X) & Jennifer Tilly (Actress, Poker Champ)
We have a new sponsor!
As some of you know, I nearly had to shut down Videogame Lookalikes after the cost of hosting nearly tripled. Ever since I lost my old web hosting deal, I've been searching for a way to pay for server costs and still afford life's most basic of necessities: video games.
Casino Guide's sponsorship helps soften the damage, plus poker is just plain cool. It's a game with a history dating back farther than the distant twinkling of Ralph Baer's eyeglasses, and as you can see above, its champions appear only in the finest of Chucky films.
[2009-06-15]
Video Game Look-Alike o' the Day:
Max Payne (Max Payne 3) & Jeff Bridges (Actor)
Is anyone happy with Max Payne's new look? Other than Jeff Bridges, I mean, whose lawyers are no doubt making phone calls and procuring cuts of the profits as we speak.
Seriously though, this has got to be the Worst Game Character Makeover since Rygar went from some earnest Warrior-King to looking like a spiky-haired frat boy from Georgia Tech.
As if that wasn't enough off-site links for ya: yet another plug for Level Up: The Video Game RPG Podcast. This week we conclude the two-part discussion on MMORPGs, share our favorite memories, recommend good games for beginners and say which MMORPGs you should absolutely stay away from. Episode 004: MMORPGs Part 2.
[2009-06-04]
Video Game Look-Alike o' the Day:
Zidane (Final Fantasy IX) & Meg Ryan (Actress)
I've been away recording podcasts, so here's a double-dose of lookalikes for ya. Above you'll see a delightfully eerie Zidane/Meg Ryan comparison -- it's all in the face. Below, feast your eyes at the hard work Mac put into the Kratos lookalike. The steel facelift is perfect for Goldberg and reminds me of the WCW glory days, back when the men were men and the women were Stacy Keibler.
Video Game Look-Alike o' the Day:
Kratos (God of War) & Goldberg (pro-wrestler)
And since it wouldn't be an update without a plug for the Level Up RPG Podcast: This week was about all about MMORPGs, so we decided to make it a multiplayer podcast and brought in fellow RPGamer alumni, Silkenray. Episode 003 - MMORPGs: Part 1.
[2009-05-30]
Video Game Look-Alike o' the Day:
Nathan Hale (Resistance) & Jason Statham (Actor)
Except for Hugh Jackman, the heroes of our time are a grim, bald lot. Vin Diesel, Jason Staham, and just about every 360 FPS character lack even a Nicholsonian widow's peak. I still think it's a bit of a cheat, but much could be said for me simply replacing the left side of the above lookalike and reprinting it. My oh my! The guy from inFAMOUS looks just like Jason Statham! Commander Shepard and Jason Statham! But not Baldur from Too Human. He looks more like Vinnie Jones.
Just a quick reminder: the second episode of Level Up (the weekly video game RPG podcast) is online. Episode 002: PC vs. Console.
[2009-05-21]
No lookalikes today, just a big fat plug for my new video game RPG podcast!
Level Up - Video Game RPG Podcast
You know you want to hear it.
Listen to the show (you can either download the MP3 or stream it in your browser) and let me know what you think.
[2009-05-17]
A while back a kindly Russian contacted me. Seems he ran his own "lookalikes" site and he saw no reason why I shouldn't reprint some of his favorites. Thanks again, Ilya!
Video Game Look-Alike o' the Day:
Baby Dragon (King's Bounty: Armored Princess) & Stitch (Lilo & Stitch)
I loved the original King's Bounty (so much that the publisher featured a quote from my review on their website). Now, the sequel to my favorite Tactical/RPG of 2008 is looking even better, thanks in small part to the cuddly little guy you see above.
Video Game Look-Alike o' the Day:
Lawyer (Superhero League of Hoboken) & Jack Thompson (Disbarred Lawyer)
I actually have this game! It's sitting right there on the shelf next to me! Superhero League of Hoboken was a CRPG styled after the Might & Magic series. It's funny, but it's HARDKORE.
[2009-05-09]
Video Game Look-Alike o' the Day:
Strider Hiryu (Strider) & William Shatner (Star Trek)
I saw the new Star Trek movie yesterday. The characters are surprisingly likable, from the twitchy nerd-rage of Spock 2.0 to James T. Kirk, who swaggers around like a combination of Firefly's Mal Reynolds and Farscape's John Crichton. There are lots of funny scenes and action packed set pieces. If you liked ID4, you'll probably like this. The audience certainly did: They broke out in applause, myself included.
But as the Romero-esque advertisements taunted, this ain't your father's Star Trek. This is Vin Diesel's Star Trek. No, wait, that's Chronicles of Riddick. Okay, it's Michael Bay's Star Trek, where problems are solved with brawn rather than brains and lense flares blind the eye like a lingering <blink> tag.
Let's put it this way: It makes the Star Wars prequels look downright stuffy. But, in the words of Leonard Nemoy, to not like it...
[2009-04-??]
Video Game Look-Alike o' the Day:
Doom Guy (Doom) & Master Chief (Halo)
I never liked how ol' Doom Guy shows so much skin. There's the nasty scratch on his inner thigh -- though, luckily, it seems to have missed any vital arteries. And it looks like he's purposely wearing tube top body armor. Upon closer inspecting, it appears as if some cybodemon tore away the thin fabric covering his vital organs, which of course leads to the question, what sort of space-congressional cutback lead to a thin layer of fabric covering his vital organs?
Master Chief knows better 'n that. Even his personality is covered in body armor, protecting his inner child and feminine side from scrutiny. But underneath that gruff exoskelleton lies both the heart -- and mind -- of a child.
[2009-04-26]
Video Game Look-Alike o' the Day:
The Lich King (World of Warcraft) & The Witch King (LoTR)
When I saw Lord of the Rings: Two Towers, it was completely packed. I had to sit way off to the right side of the theater, behind an old guy in a giant cowboy hat.
Wearing something like that to a theater and then not taking it off is sort of like saying, "Hello everyone behind me! I hope you like southwestern fashion, because that's all you're going to see tonight!"
[2009-04-19]
Video Game Look-Alike o' the Day:
Andy Bogard (Fatal Fury) Orlando Bloom (Legolas)
This will no doubt lead to a flood of fangirls cooperating on a Andy/Legolas slash fanfiction.
What have I done? What have I done??
[2009-04-17]
Today's update comes from the NSFW browser game Forumwarz. I knew it existed but never tried it out, and last night I saw the main page and, well, came up with what you see before you.
Video Game Look-Alike o' the Day:
Hacker (Forumwarz) & Steve Smith (American Dad!)
I'm trying to come up with some sort of schedule, say Monday-Wednesday-Friday. But everyone does MWF, and you'll probably remember to check Penny Arcade or something. Then I was thinking Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, because I've liked updating on Thursdays ever since Thursday Thorsday Madness. Then I wondered if people would realize I update on days with 'T' in them. Then I realized it was already the 17th and got busy.
[2009-04-11]
Video Game Look-Alike o' the Day:
Cybil Bennett (Silent Hill) & Cameron Diez (Actress)
Edit: Click for larger image now fixed; no longer Joseph Stalin. O_o
I've set up a little row of social networking buttons (see below), so stumble, tweet, facebook and eat -- er, delicious -- to your heart's content. And lemme know how bad I screwed up the buttons.
[2009-04-10]
Video Game Look-Alike o' the Day:
Mario (Super Mario Bros.) & Joseph Stalin (Dictator)
[2009-04-09]
Video Game Look-Alike o' the Day:
Edward Carnby (Alone in the Dark) & Olivier Martinez (Actor)
Erik the Viking sent in this awesome lookalike, just in time for Hallowee... what? It's April? Then who are all those people with masks and bloody knives?
BRB.
[2009-04-08]
The new daily update format is giving me a chance to descend deep into the dusty Videogame Lookaikes archives, sneak past the sightless warrior-monks trained to kill anyone who doesn't know the secret password -- which I forgot -- and rescue submissions that have been waiting longer than I'd care to think about.
Video Game Look-Alike o' the Day:
Bryan Fury (Tekken) & Rutger Hauer (Actor, Bladerunner)
If you like this site, why not use the Stumble Upon button or one of the numerous sites offered by AddThis to let your friends know about it?

Video Game Look-Alike o' the Day:
Big Boss (MGS3) & Hugh Jackman
[2009-04-06]
Recently, I was forced to find a new web host, which has caused of all the downtime. The internet is still "sending letters to my old address" -- or at least that's how the 80 year old woman at the post office explained it to me after she overheard my cell phone conversation.
My last host was great, but now I'm facing the harsh reality of just how much bandwidth I was using.
Having calculated the high cost of living, I'm reminded of a scene from The Ghostbusters, which -- with a few edits -- sums up the situation nicely:
Dr Ray Stantz: Personally, I liked the university old web host. They gave us didn't ask for much money and facilities we didn't have to produce anything! You've never been out of college paid for so much bandwidth! You don't know what it's like out there! I've *worked* hosted my website in the private sector. They expect *results* roughly three times what I was paying.
Okay, so maybe I just wanted an excuse to play with the <ins> and <del> tags.
[2009-04-05]
I've moved VGL onto a new web host and it will take everyone's DNS's about a day to resynch. For the lucky few who are reading this right now, le update:
A videogame lookalike update every day? It sounds too good to be true, but it's not.
Thanks to Roger for the sweet lookalike.
[2009-03-30]
We're back! Yes, after just a few days of technical difficulties, people around the world rejoyce at the prospect of once again logging onto the web and checking out people... who look like game characters. Truly, this is why the internet was invented. Well, this and Swedish academia. They're both awesome.
[2009-02-12]
David Bowie is in every game! I've been saying it for ten years, it's always met with the same result: People back away, slowly, without making eye contact.
But that doesn't change the facts, and with each new David Bowie lookalike submission, the evidence that most character designers basically just flip to a random scene from the Labyrinth and start drawing is even more damning.
When will news of this shocking discovery reach the mainstream press?

Videogame Lookalike Election Special!
[2008-10-25]
Happy Hallo--what, not yet? Man oh man, I'm so excited, I just can't hide it. Halloween is right around the corner, and that means digging up all my favorite unpublished SPOOKALIKES.
[2008-06-26]
Booya, right on schedule. Tell your friends: www.videogamelookalikes.com is where it's at.
Anybody buying this?
[2008-06-19]
Told ya! New Videogame Lookalikes every Thursday. EVERY THURSDAY. Even if I get dangerously close to missing NBC's awesome "Fear Itself" horror series. That's the kind of dedication you reward with cookies and ice cream.
[2008-06-12]
Two big announcements:
- We're moving to VideogameLookalikes.com
- Thursday Night Lookalikes! Come back every Thursday for brand new lookalikes from the original Videogame Lookalikes website! (That's me.)
[2008-06-02]
Attention: I moved the link to the "Thanks" section to the bottom of this page. Been meaning to do that for a while, as I started thanking people on the actual lookalikes sometime before the turn of the millennium. Now go check out the new David Bowie section!

Inspired by Rambo Part 4: Third Blood & 1/5th, I've decided to serve up a warm platter of Stallone. Serve with a mouthfull of cotton candy and goblets of foesblood.
And in keeping with today's theme, here's a classic Rambo lookalike from back in 2006.
[2007-12-12]
Today's lookalikes contain some of the biggest titles out there: Grand Theft Auto 4, God of War, Resident Evil 4, Might & Magic VII (okay, maybe not that last one.)
Yes, I'm back after a long, long time. My reasons will become clear soon enough (ominous tone), but for now, enjoy some of these big bad videogame lookalikes.
[2007-03-05]
I should have known that if I bragged about regular updates, you wouldn't hear from me for months. In that sense, I'm sort of like the Runaway Bride, only without Richard Gere and white sneakers. Also, my face doesn't make rabbits cry. But aside from all that, I'm exactly like Julia Roberts.

Holy crap! I'm actually updating on the 15th and 31st of every month. Of course, November had to go and screw me over, but at least you're getting Lookalike Goodness a day early.
(You owe me big for this one.)
Videogame Lookalikes is sweeping the internation. So it makes sense that if I'm going to subject Germans and Puerto Ricans to Britney Spears lookalikes, I should accept lookalikes for foreign personalities:
i've been looking thru your site, and i really found it very interesting XD
anyway, this look alike is of how Shigeru Myamoto (or whatever its spelled)
look alike Dedé Santana, a known brazilian humourist, and Zacarias, another famous humouristic brazilian, respectively.
If you think you need to put the names, feel free to.
Solid lookalike, my friend. My only questions is, why would I need to put the names up? Only a fool wouldn't recognize such famously funny Brazilians!
[2006-11-15]
I see you guys Digg Videogame Lookalikes. I can dig it. Just under seven billion unique hits in under a day? I'm blushing like a little girl.
To celebrate, here's a lookalike submitted by Fritz Fraundorf of the GIA. Yeah, it's that old. There wasn't anything wrong with this lookalike. Hell, I liked it. But after waiting several years for "Musician Only" update that never came, I felt its time had come.
It just goes to show, if I don't publish your lookalike right away, just wait a few years and it'll all be better. There's really no need to send me a vaguely threatening letter like this one:
dude please ihave already send you these lookalikes put them in your page or else
- Enzan the Ocelot
'Or else'? Sheesh! Put down the knife, kid. I'm sure it's real important that you let the world know that Grey Fox looks just like a TMNT Foot Gunner Ninja, but first I have to post quality lookalikes like these!
[2006-10-30]
Happy Halloween!
Hey, better tomorrow than yesterday, right? If you REALLY want you can save these for tomorrow, but that'd be like saving your Mini Snickers until you get home. BIG MISAKE. 'Cause all you'd have to eat are those honey comb crunchy health candies that get stuck in the few teeth remaining in your head after you mistakingly bite down on one.
Day two is leading up to the big October 31st surprise, and it's here with a VENGEANCE. And a FURY. A FURIOUS VENGEANCE. Ah man I like the sound of that. Furious Vengeance: Part 2: Bloodclaw Swamp Starring famed villain Oklahoma Hacksaw with special effects by Red Die #40. Coming in January, because we missed the October release.
Without further jibba-jabba, HALLOWEEN LOOKEYLIKES! Boogatey WOO!
[2006-10-13]
Huzzah! An update! At long last!
Fans of frequency will be happy to know I've returned to a (slightly modified) original lookalike design. Besides being a glorious return to my iconic roots -- thanks! -- it's also easier to pull off. And you know what that means (more updates) but I'm not gonna say it (too risky) because then I'll jinx myself (already did.)
You know, I've been doing Videogame Lookalikes for years. Though I don't recall the exact date, I'm pretty sure this website was up as early as 2000, and quite possibly much, much earlier, actually rising from the primordial ooze known as the nineteen nineties.
Videogame Lookalikes is going on seven years and freakin' Chrono Trigger is still top on the list. Not one A-Game, not one B-Game, not even after all these years. Well, not anymore. I'm pleased to present a small but highly prized series of works known as "The BeTrapped! Collection," as well as a few other choice lookalikes.
(Franklin Eggerton and McArra from Navy Moves are my personal favorites this week. That means they're best.)
ATTENTION: I just realized that Action Puzzle Game Zoo Keeper has BeTrapped! beat by about five months. Dangit.
[2006-05-02]
Nobody's perfect. And neither was my old clickable email address. So from now on, you're going to get the badass image you see above. It may not be clickable, but at least it looks vaguely threatening in a gothic conquest of Rome sort of way.
Before I continue, here are this week's lookalikes.
Sometimes, people send me letters, like this one:
methinks i look like quistis haha
- Rebecca
Well, Rebecca, do you know what?
And thus begins the newest section of Videogame Lookalikes (coming to a Bonus page near you): Reader Lookalikes. Think your mother is a dead ringer for Mega Man? Does your workplace resemble something from Illbleed? Send it in! You know the address. Just get your parents permission first, I don't want this place turning into the next MySpace.
In a recent survey[1], 56.7% of Videogame Lookalikes readers list English as their primary language. That means 43.3% of people reading this right now, er, can't read it.
Obviously, my lookalikes have some universal appeal that transcends all language barriers. For instance, Ayane's lookalike is just as popular in Germany or Japan as it is here in America.[2] Incidentally, Ana Sofia Henao is from Colombia, and she's one year younger than me. And for some reason, that makes me feel like I got a chance. *grins*
[2006-04-14]
Like that date? Well you should. It follows the standard ISO Date Format for international sensitivity[1]. And the website? Valid HTML 4.01 Transitional[2]. This suit? Armani. Everything is Armani, even things I am not wearing, but might touch my fingers are Armani. This keyboard is Armani. The software I run my computer on is an Armani suite. And these lookalikes are some of the damned finest lookalikes lurid favors can buy.
Enough braggery. It's time to set a new standard. A new standard in Lookalikes. Behold, the redesign!
I'm even using footnotes. How's that for snobbery.
[Saturday, February 25th. 2006]
I get mail.
i'm not here to send any look-a-likes, i'm here to complaint your site has some very good look-a-likes, but some just got me REAL pissed! like how somebody said that Violet from Tekken 4 looked like Michael Jackson! NO HE FRIGGIN DOESNT!!! gosh! Violet is my favorite char and youre saying he looks like some child molester! W/E!!! jeez o flip... -_-*
Jeez o flip indeed. Based on your complaint, I decided to reevaluate the existing Violet/Jackson Lookalike.
As you can see, there are a few discrepancies. While Michael Jackson's jacket is black, Violet is dressed in some previously unknown color, a strange combination of red and blue. If the university allows me to name it, I think I'll go with "redloo." Also, Michael Jackson has one glove, while Violet doesn't have any hands.
So, for the first time ever, I have retracted a lookalike. Here is the new Violet lookalike. Once again, my apologies.
Now, let's get to the lookalikes. In light of all this, I've assembled a crack team of pedobusters -- The Manly Seven. These guys are lean, mean, and TiVo every episode of To Catch a Predator. Perverts beware, The Manly Seven's pedometers are set to kill.
But wait! There are only six! Who's the seventh man?
Why, Violet, of course.
[Wednesday, February 1st. Troll time.]
Allright, I promised a bunch of G4TV updates. But then I got kind of... sidetracked. Instead, I decided to just close my eyes, throw a couple of darts out the window, and whenever I'd hear a scream, I'd point to a random lookalike and shout, "NOW!"
At that, my army of singing trolls would rush it away to the V.G.L. Industries to toil away in the sweatshop. The results? Almost as good as the American trolls' work, and at half the cost. That, my friends, is good business.
Holy digital cable, batman! G4TV featured my page on their Attack of the Show... uh... show. We'll have pictures and clips soon, but for now, dig these HARDKORE LOOKEYLIKES. No, seriously, they are really good. Especially the Solid Snake one, which just might be the most blatant ripoff of all time.
Next week we'll have lookalikes from the G4TV crowd. It's new blood, people. And it smells fresh.
